Sumi Ink from Japan

$12.00

This permanent black ink is formulated for sumi painting and calligraphy. Made from high quality vegetable soot and a bit of shellac, once the ink has dried, it is impervious to water. The ink retains a slight sheen when dry.

You can dilute the ink with water to make a lovely range of grays. Traditionally used primarily with a brush, the ink can also be used with a calligraphy nib, but you must be diligent about washing your nib before the ink dries.

Size: 2 oz. glass bottle

Bonus: The vintage label bears the handwriting of Emmy Kennett, my nimble shop assistant. The glass bottle is protectively packed in a clear plastic sleeve, closed with a charming little surprise.
