Petite Accessory Box via private Zoom
Petite Accessory Box via private Zoom
Instructor: Bari Zaki
This style boxmaking is available as a private workshop. Nota bene: There is no companion recording. But there is a charming illustrated multi-page handout with step-by-step instructions, which we will mail you a day or so after your workshop session. No previous boxmaking experience is necessary; a bit of glueing experience is a plus.
This box is as useful as it is beautiful. The inner tray with its three compartments is a lovely way to keep your favourite attachments close at hand. Paper clips, butterfly clips, and rolls of washi nip disorganization in the bud. A decorative desktop accessory is eternally energizing. What more can we say?
What you’ll make: First, you will construct your box from pre-cut pieces of binders-board. You’ll cover the box with a combination of Japanese bookbinding fabrics & papers; ditto the interior compartments. For the finale, you’ll add the perfect finishing touch: a length of lovely Italian cotton ribbon that is a joy to tie into a simple bow. It’s also handy to hold the box closed, should you decide to take it on a trip. Voilà!
Compartments: The long section, measuring 7½ x 2, is perfect for pencils—although you won’t feel wishi about this neat way to store your washi. The medium compartment is 5 x 3¼, and the petite is 2¼ x 3¼.
By the end of this Zoom workshop you will have one completed box, and the confidence to make more at home thanks to our printed handout.
Class fee includes all materials we use to make a box: Two complementary Japanese decorative papers, bookcloth, pre-cut binders board, & a lovely length of Italian cotton ribbon.
Tools needed: Bonefolder, teflon bonefolder, X-acto knife, scissors, ruler, small triangle ruler (optional), PVA glue & a glue-brush. You will receive a 20% discount on all tools ordered for the workshop (via refund after your workshop purchase). You can purchase these tools individuallyhere.
Ancillary tools needed: pencil, scrap paper for glueing on, and a cutting mat, a heavy weight (or book) for pressing your box.
Nota bene: If you have the necessary tools but are in need of the glue & glue-brush, you’ll find them in a separate shop listing here.
