Introduction to Boxmaking via private Zoom
Introduction to Boxmaking via private Zoom
Instructor: Bari Zaki
This box style is available as a private workshop. Nota bene: There is no companion recording. But there is a charming illustrated multi-page handout with step-by-step instructions, which we will mail you a day or so after your workshop session. No previous boxmaking experience is necessary; a bit of glueing experience is a plus.
What you’ll make: A box that is perfect for holding postcards or photos. Classic archival construction protects your paper treasures.
You will construct a box from pre-cut pieces of binders-board. You’ll cover your box with a combination of Japanese bookbinding fabrics & papers, and then add a ribbon tab. Voilà! Your tray and cover will need to press overnight, which we’ll explain how to do on your own.
Class fee includes all materials we use to make a box: Japanese decorative paper and bookcloth, pre-cut binders board, & a lovely length of Italian cotton ribbon.
Tools needed: Bonefolder, teflon bonefolder, X-acto knife, scissors, ruler, small triangle ruler (optional), PVA glue & a glue-brush. You will receive a 20% discount on all tools ordered for the workshop (via refund after your workshop purchase). You can purchase these tools individuallyhere.
Ancillary tools needed: pencil, scrap paper for glueing on, and a cutting mat, a heavy weight (or book) for pressing your box.
Nota bene: If you have the necessary tools but are in need of the glue & glue-brush, you’ll find them in a separate shop listinghere.
